Rhos Family Church (unnamed at that time) first met on Sunday
9 July 2000 in the home of founder members. Twenty-five people were present and
apologies for absence were received from a number of others. It was obvious that
somewhere larger and more central was urgently needed and arrangements were
quickly made to hire Parkway Community Centre in Rhos on Sea for the service the
following Sunday morning. The church continued to meet in Parkway Community
Centre for "all age Sunday services" until November 2000, by which time we had
outgrown those premises with seventy people being regular attendees. The Centre
was also proving unsuitable for other reasons, one of which was the lack of
accommodation for young people’s activities and a crèche. In November 2000 the
church moved to Llandrillo-yn-Rhos Infants School on Bryn Menai, Rhos on Sea,
and continue to meet there at the time of writing.
During the very early days a small group, whose vision was
responsible for starting the work, undertook the running of Rhos Family Church.
However, after a detailed consultation exercise, with all involved having the
opportunity to take part, decisions were taken as to the type of leadership
structure to be formally adopted and elected.
In late 2000 we formally constituted as a Church with an
initial membership of 70 people. In early 2001 our first Fellowship Council was
elected with annual elections continuing thereafter. The present Fellowship
Council was elected in early 2004.
We are so grateful to God for the way that He has prospered
us over these early years. Under His hand we have grown from our original 25
people to a congregation averaging 80 people and a committed membership in
excess of 60 people. Because many of our membership come from a variety of
different backgrounds we try to be broad-based in terms of church practice in a
biblical, relevant and contemporary way. Various members take part in leading
Sunday services and preaching which provides a variety that is appreciated by
many. We do not have any paid staff at the moment and many volunteers are
involved in practical tasks and other ministries both on Sundays and during the
week.
We have a desire to grow as a Church and develop our
ministries. We would love to find larger more permanent premises that would
allow us to develop:
our outreach activities,
a more comprehensive programme of evangelism,
a more effective form of pastoral care and support,
a programme of social life, and
a sense of unity that would show increasingly the
attractiveness of being part of God’s family.
Our desire is to establish a strong biblically based Church
that caters for all ages, where everyone's gifts and concerns are valued and a
family atmosphere prevails.
